Joel Poland Sets New Pending Overall World Record

29 April 2024

The British waterskier has done it again. He's provisionally broken his own overall world record at a competition in the USA.

The record was set in round 2 of the Ski Fluid Classic in Polk City near Orlando in Florida on Sunday 28th April.

His individual scores were: 1@10.25m in slalom, 11,680 points in tricks and 70.3 metres in jump, making a total overall points score of 2673.70 points.

The record will have to be ratified by the IWWF Waterski Council. It is only 3 points above his previous record, set in September 2023, so fingers crossed that he's not docked any points from his trick run.

"Still room for improvement, but I couldn't be happier!" Joel said on social media after the competition.

"There was a time where I couldn't even imagine running these scores. Some will call it talent, but those around will know it's a commitment to improving every day and that's something I couldn't do without a few individuals and companies backing me."

Joel went on to thank Ski Fluid, MasterCraft, Radar Skis, coach Matt Rini, Shuswap Ski & Board, along with friends, family, officials and everyone who cheers him on.

If ratified, this will be Joel's 5th Overall World record.  The first came in April 2021 - also at the Ski Fluid Classic.  The second was in October the same year at the World Championships.  He then broke his own record twice in the space of just two weeks in September 2023.

If record #5 is approved, we believe Joel will be the only man to have broken the overall world record five times.

It's a phenomenal achievement by the 25-year-old whose next competition is scheduled to be the Swiss Pro Slalom in Clermont, Florida, on Sunday 5th May.

Joel is among 23 men on the start list, including three other British skiers: the current Men's Slalom World Champion Freddie Winter, Will Asher and Rob Hazelwood.

The event is due to start at 1pm BST with round one for the women (12 skiers), followed by round one for the men.

It will be livestreamed by The Waterski Broadcasting Company.
